E-journals downtime, May 1st

We've just been told that the system that powers our e-journals platform (part of OxLIP+) will be down for up to six hours on Sunday (7am-1pm). This will affect links to e-journals from SOLO, OxLIP+ and bibliographic databases.  The e-journals themselves will not be affected if you go to their websites directly, but even then you may have problems with authentication if you are outside the University network.

WISER and other training sessions for Trinity Term

The programme of WISER and Refworks sessions for Trinity Term is now available on the Bodleian Libraries' website. Sessions of particular interest to Americanists this term include:

• Refworks for Humanities: Wednesday 18th May, 2.00pm-5.00pm
• Online resources for Historians: Wednesday 8th June, 2.00pm-3.15pm
• Sources for US History: Wednesday 8th June, 3.30pm-5.00pm

There will also be the usual sessions on 'finding stuff', as well as sessions on reference management and getting information to come to you.  You can book for all the sessions via the website and OUCS.

Early modern history: Discover Early English Books Online (EEBO)
Friday 17 June (week 7), 14:15-15:30 - BOOK HERE
EEBO is an important database of early printed books from 1475-1700. If you need tracts, texts and pamphlets written in Britain and colonial America in this time, then this hands-on session will show how to search, manipulate and print the text.

Join this session to get an introductory overview of the ProQuest Historical Newspapers database. This course covers the content, functions, and features of, as well as tips for using, ProQuest Historical Newspapers such as The Guardian/Observer, The Scotsman, The Irish Times and The Washington Post.

Saturday Opening: Trinity Term

The library will be open on Saturdays throughout Trinity Term, 10am-2pm, starting this Saturday (30th April) until 18th June. A reminder that we will be open as usual on both Bank Holidays this weekend (Friday 29th and Monday 2nd), 9am-7pm, although there will be a limited service from the bookstack on both days.

Finding books with multiple editions on SOLO: new & improved!

From this morning, improvements have been made to how books with multiple editions display on SOLO, which should make it easier to see what is available.  Whereas before there used to be an easily-overlook-able link saying '1 of x versions of this work' on the right-hand side, you will now see a line of text saying 'multiple versions found - to view list click versions on the right'.  This should direct you to the link that will bring up a list of all the different editions available in Oxford, automatically sorted in date order with the newest edition at the top.  There will be no change to how books with only one edition display.

Easter/Bank holiday hours and bookstack deliveries

Our opening hours over the Easter weekend and the Bank Holidays that follow are:

• Friday 22nd April: closed
• Monday 25th April: closed
• Friday 29th April: open 9am-7pm
• Monday 2nd May: open 9am-7pm
• Monday 30th May: open 9am-7pm

We've been informed by the Bodleian that there will only be a limited bookstack delivery service on the bank holidays. If you want to consult material from the Bodleian stack on those days, please make sure you order it a few days in advance to ensure it gets here beforehand.

Other libraries may have altered or reduced opening hours on these days - check the Bodleian Libraries website or individual library websites for more information.
